A faction of the Accord Party on Sunday conducted another governorship primary election in Osun State, producing Clement Bamigbola as its candidate for the 2026 election.
The development came days after the party held a governorship primary in Osogbo that produced Governor Ademola Adeleke as the Accord Party’s candidate, following his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Reacting to the fresh primary, the faction that produced Adeleke faulted the exercise, describing it as invalid and unauthorised.
The Chairman of the Accord Party in Osun State, Babalola Akande, said those behind the second primary had been suspended from the party.
“Let it be stated clearly, categorically, and without equivocation that all the actors being named in this end-year comedy, including one Mr Fanibe and Clement Bamigbola, are not known members of the Accord Party,” Akande said.
According to him, Fanibe had been expelled from the party since 2018.
“Fanibe, for instance, has since been expelled from the party since 2018.
“Such a character, or any other in his shoes, therefore possesses no authority whatsoever — moral, political or legal — to convene, announce or participate in any activity conducted in the name of the Accord Party,” he added.
Akande described the exercise as impersonation and political mischief, insisting it posed no threat to the party.
“The Accord is not disturbed by this crude impersonation. However, the public must know that those being propped up for this affront on our democracy are known APC affiliates acting as proxies in a desperate scheme targeted at undermining the overwhelming popularity and lawful candidacy of His Excellency, Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke,” he said.
He maintained that Adeleke remains the duly nominated governorship candidate of the party in Osun State.
“Let me state with absolute finality that Governor Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke is the duly nominated and lawful governorship candidate of the Accord Party in Osun State.
“This position is incontestable, irreversible, and firmly grounded in law, having emerged through due process in accordance with the Constitution of the Accord Party, the Electoral Act 2022, and established judicial precedents,” Akande said.
