A Nigerian podcast, Love and Life Matters, has unexpectedly risen to the top of Apple Podcasts’ relationship charts in Cape Verde, barely a month after its launch.
According to Podchaser, a global platform that tracks podcast rankings, the show also reached number 12 in Bhutan, a surprising milestone for a new production from Nigeria. Podstatus further listed it as number one in the relationship category and third in society and culture in Cape Verde.
Produced by Abraham Kuti, Love and Life Matters explores how technology is reshaping modern relationships. Kuti describes the format as conversational and reflective, saying it is designed to allow listeners to engage with issues “without feeling lectured or influenced by the hosts’ opinions.”
While the international recognition has drawn attention to the podcast, Kuti admits the project still faces the typical hurdles of new media productions. “We are dealing with challenges of sponsorship, audience expansion and sustainability,” he said, noting that the rise on foreign charts does not erase the realities of building a consistent Nigerian audience.
Observers say the success of Love and Life Matters highlights the growing reach of Nigerian digital content beyond traditional markets. It also reflects how podcasts are increasingly becoming a platform for cultural exchange, with Nigerian voices finding resonance in unexpected places.
For Kuti, the recognition is encouraging, but he insists the focus remains on strengthening the content and ensuring it speaks to both local and global audiences.
