The Imo State Police Command has arrested and detained 32-year-old Pastor Ikenna Emmanuel and his alleged accomplice, Franklin Chizoba, for the alleged rape of a 20-year-old woman.
According to the police, the suspects lured the victim with the promise of a prayer session.
Police spokesman, DSP Henry Okoye, confirmed the arrests in a statement released in Owerri on Thursday.
Okoye said that Emmanuel, who is the pastor of Authentic Power City Church and a native of Umuobom in Ideato-South Local Government Area, allegedly offered the woman a drugged drink at his residence on June 30.
“Shortly afterward, she became dizzy, after which both suspects had unlawful carnal knowledge of her,” Okoye stated.
Following the report, officers from the Orlu Division quickly apprehended both suspects.
He said during their interrogation, both men reportedly confessed to the crime and also admitted to engaging in homosexual acts.
They were arraigned in court on August 12 and remanded at the Correctional Facility in Owerri to await trial.
…Another man arrested for allegedly stabbing father to death
In a separate incident on August 12, Orlu Division operatives arrested 39-year-old Ifeanyi Odinka of Amaifeke Orlu for allegedly stabbing his 75-year-old father, Dennis Odinka, to death. The incident reportedly stemmed from a dispute over money from a land sale.
Okoye confirmed that the suspect has confessed to the crime and has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Owerri for further investigation and prosecution.
The Imo State Police Command reiterated its commitment to combating crime and ensuring the safety of all residents.
