A talented Nigerian attacking winger, Adam Aliyu, is targeting promotion to the first division of Latvian Virsliga with his second-division side JFK Ventspils.
Aliyu, who is making waves with impressive performances since he debuted for his new club, contributed in a dominant 4-1 league win, setting up one goal and earning a penalty to help seal the victory in the second league match.
The Kano indigene who disclosed his ambition in a telephone interview with Daily Trust identified hard work and commitment as the recipes to achieving his dream.
“Well, right now my target is, or the whole club’s target, is to gain promotion because we are in the second division now. So our target is to gain promotion to the first division and hopefully by hard work in life, we will get there,” he said.
Aliyu expressed satisfaction with his new club, recalling his performance during the second league match.
“It’s been really good. It’s been an experience, obviously. I’m still adapting to the place, football club, and how they play.
“I played my second match on Friday, August 22. That is how I know all the people got news about me because I had a really good game,” he said.
He went on to hail the exploits of the Super Eagles captain, Ahmed Musa, and the captain of Kano Pillars FC, Rabiu Ali, saying they are models for budding talents.
Aliyu also shared his journey into professional football, saying he began after travelling to Riverside Military Academy in Atlanta Georgia where he earned a scholarship to play football at Oglethorpe University in Atlanta.
While still settling down in Latvia, Aliyu maintained that his ambition is to improve and one day play for a bigger club in Europe.
“My ambitions are to just grow as a player. I want to be the best version of myself, obviously. I want to play at the highest level, of course,” he said.
The youngster, in addition, said his ultimate desire is to play for the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
“I also want to represent my country one day, hopefully. So, those are my goals. I think right now, the place I’m at is a really good starting point to achieve those goals. Hopefully, in the next couple of years, I will go to Europe,” he said.
He concluded by appreciating his parents, saying they have been instrumental to his progress.
