The Southwest Agenda for Asiwaju (SWAGA) says President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will win more states in the North come 2027.
National Chairman of the group, Senator Dayo Adeyeye, said this at a press conference in Lagos, on Tuesday.
At the event where SWAGA 0.2 was launched ahead of next election, Adeyeye dismissed the insinuation that the region has decided not to support Tinubu’s re-election bid. .
Daily Trust reports that some politicians have declared that the North will remove Tinubu in 2027, citing alleged marginalisation of the region by the present government.
Many claimed that the region has been sidelined in critical policy decisions and project implementation despite what they called its significant electoral support for the president in the 2023 general elections.
But Adeyeye while responding to questions newsmen, said the present government has been fair to the North, both in terms of appointments and critical projects.
He described those behind the alleged gang up against Tinubu’s re-election bid as “rabble-rousers” with no electoral value in the North.
Adeyeye, who was Minister of Works, said it is wrong for the political class to view the North as a “monolithic political entity,” saying every state decides its fate within the region.
“There’s diversity of interest in the North, the North doesn’t have one interest. Just as it is in the South also; we do not have just one interest. Between the Southwest, South South and Southeast, there is diversity of interest,” Adeyeye said.
He boasted that Tinubu will win more states in the North in 2027 than he did during the 2023 presidential election.
The SWAGA Chairman said “Right now, I even see greater consensus for Asiwaju in the North. Who are the people saying that they will not vote for Asiwaju in the North? They are people who have no electoral value whatsoever. We don’t even know them. Some of them come on TVs and brag and brag, and say all sorts of things.
“But what I see in the north right now is that I see all governors in the North particularly of the APC supporting Asiwaju fervently and being loyal to him. I even see governors of other parties in the North still supporting Asiwaju as well.
“I have not seen any person of great electoral value in the north that is opposed to Asiwaju’s second term ambition. All the governors are united.
“Don’t let anybody fool you to say this time around the North has made up their mind , they will not vote for Asiwaju. It’s a lie.
“This time around the North will even vote more, in a bigger way for Asiwaju’s second term ambition. I can assure you of that.
“Quote me and come back in 2027 after the election, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu will win more northern states this time around than before.”
The Chairman of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) Board, described SWAGA 0.2 as the second round of the group’s journey to mobilise for Tinubu’s re-election.
He said Tinubu deserves to be re-elected because he has not disappointed Nigerians especially those who believed in his vision for the country and his capability to drive the mission.
Adeyeye listed “achievements and reforms”” of the president within two years in office including subsidy removal, floating of the Naira, establishment of 11 new universities, tax reforms, capital market stabilisation and increased revenue to states.
According to him, Tinubu floated the Naira and stopped the reckless printing of currency and corrupt borrowing through the unpopular “ways and means” to defend it against the U.S Dollars thus ensuring stability in its value with increased inflow of Foreign Direct Investment aided by confidence in Nigeria’s economy.
He said “We hereby make bold to say that since 1999 till date, no Nigerian president has come into office with the kind of preparation, vision and passion that President Tinubu has displayed.
“We are of the firm conviction that if a government in Nigeria has been able to achieve so much within just 2 years in office in terms of projects and policies, then Nigerians are in for better and brighter future in 4 years and ultimately more will be done and the country will experience exponential development and growth in 8 years under the visionary and courageous leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
The National Secretary of SWAGA, Bosun Oladele, described the group as one of most vibrant, formidable and visible political groups in Nigeria’s history.
Oladele, a former member of the House of Representatives, said SWAGA carried out its campaign across the country in 2023 based on principles with no record of attacks and injuries.
