Harmony John, an attacking midfield sensation discovered during the 2024 Bayelsa State Governor’s Cup otherwise known as “Prosperity Cup” yesterday made history by scoring in her professional debut for Bayelsa Queens against Benue Queens in the Nigerian Women Football League (NWFL) match played at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa.
Harmony, who formerly played for Golden Sun Sports Club was signed by Bayelsa Queens at the start of the current season.
Bayelsa Queens Coach, Whyte Ogbonda, surprisingly included Harmony John, into the starting lineup and to the amazement of the spectator, the midfielder repaid her Coach’s trust by delivering a Woman of the Match performance in her first-ever top flight appearance for her club.
It all started in the 10th minute of play when she finished off a beautiful team move by scoring from a rebound to give her side the lead.
The goal took the ‘Prosperity Girls’ three points clear of rivals Rivers Angels who had earlier in the day lost their match against FC Robo of Lagos.
In a post- match interview, the teenage pledged to produce more of such breath-taking performance.
Harmony also thanked her coach for reposing so much confidence in her.
“I was pleasantly surprised when I was listed to start the match. There was a little pressure but I had to justify the confidence of my coach in me.
“This is just the beginning. I hope to score more goals for the club. I am not going to rest on my oars,” she said.
